DISTRICT GOALS UPDATE PRESENTATION GOALS
Provide a District Goal #2 update regarding:
- Renaissance Learning (RL-2a).
- Two elementary curricular programs (English Language Arts, ELA, and Science - 2b).
- Undoing Racism professional development (2c).
- Students Accelerated in Learning (S.A.I.L.) planning efforts (2d).
District Goals Update
RL: A High Impact Instructional Tool
What is RL?
RL is an instructional tool that provides real-time information to teachers so they may make “in-the-moment” instructional adjustments.
Implementation Year
Year 1 (District-wide and Required)
Previous two years were optional, teacher-choice.
Information gleaned from these two years guided the district-wide implementation in all elementary and middle schools.
Professional Development
- Teacher training before school commenced.
- Job-embedded training.
- RL University access for all teachers.
- School-level data coaching for professional learning communities.
- District-level data coaching for the Equity, Curriculum and Instruction department.

Undoing Racism
Work Accomplished:
- To date, there have been 14 Undoing Racism workshops (4 in 15-16; 8 in 16 -17; 2 to date in 17-18). There are 5 additional workshops scheduled for the 17-18 school year.
- 677 staff members trained to date.
- 394 staff members slated to be trained.
Work Underway:
- Identify and secure a funding source for approximately 4 additional Undoing Racism workshops for the 17-18 school year. Or, consider creating our own foundational course.
- Identify and secure a funding source for 2 Montclair Public Schools community partners Undoing Racism workshops. C
- Continued support of Montclair's anti-racism advocacy group, Teachers Undoing Racism Now (TURN).

S.A.I.L. Planning
Work Accomplished:
- Convened a planning team (representatives from K-8).
- Examined current and previous practices, protocols and services.
- Invited planning team to attend the Gifted and Talented Conference at Rutgers University.
Work Underway:
- Continued examination of current and previous practices, protocols and services.
- Creation of an electronic needs assessment (students, parents/guardians, teachers and principals).
- Creation of a S.A.I.L. Advisory Committee.
